Cafe Katariina

Experience a unique atmosphere in the Kemi inner harbor and Guest Marina.

When not cruising the traditional S/Y Katariina is operating as a café and boat restaurant in the cozy environment of Kemi inner harbor. There is often events that include summer theater, live music, game nights, and karaoke.

The summer café is serving customers some snack and refreshment. Café Katariina is open daily from June to August.

Cruises

The S/Y Perämeren Jähti has several scheduled cruises during the summer. We sail slowly to the magnificent Bothnian Bay National Park and visit the islands of Pensaskari or Selkä-Sarvi. A cruise on the Gulf of Bothnia or a nearby water cruise will introduce you to the story of old shaw island Laitakari, accompanied by a wonderful musical experience by the Siren of the Bothnian Bay. S/Y Perameren Jahti

The boat Perameren Jahti guarantees an enjoyable and safe sailing experience to its passengers with old-time style. A comfortable lounge and dining room, saloon as well as an open modern kitchen with cook´s services makes the sailing trip easy and carefree.

Passengers can follow the voyage from the stylish saloon´s front windows. There are seats on the deck from where one can enjoy the fresh sea air.

S/Y Jahti can have 36 passengers for one-day cruises. For longer cruises, there is accommodation for 12 persons.

The History of S/Y Jahti

The S/Y Jahti has been built with an old 1800-century boat building style, following as much as possible the eras´ knowledge of coaster building and structure but still respecting the modern safety regulations.

The S/Y Jahti is 22 m long and 5,3m wide. Draught is ca 1,9 m and water displacement 37 tn. Top cruising speed is 10 knot.   When the wind blows, the boat is sailing swiftly ahead in a traditional style with a 150m2 spread of canvas. At other times a 250–horsepower engine is used as a moving power.

The Traditional S/Y Katariina Boat

The traditional S/Y Katariina provides cruises and events for celebrations, meetings and other events.

There is a traditionally decorated sailors mess which is perfect for private dinners and evening parties. A wood-heated fireplace in the mess creates cozy atmosphere for relaxation. You might even be accompanied by  a troubadour playing his guitar.

For meetings and educational events the boat can offer appropriate AV-equipment. During the cruise there are some snack served from the boats´s own kitchen. Caterer provides lunch and dinner menus for the charter cruises.

Since S/Y Katariina is a Finnish boat it also has a sauna below the deck. Take a dive into the Bothnian Bay and relax & warm up in the boat’s own sauna where 4 person can bath at the same time. Afterwards you can cool off  with a cold beer or enjoy a hot drink.

Because of the low drought of the boat, also the shallow beaches can be visited quite easily.

The boat’s capacity for the cruises is 12 persons. While staying in the harbor as a cafe the boat accommodates 30 persons.

The History of S/Y Katariina

The old wood yawl is treated with tar and it has a wooden hull with steely bow and deck. The boat was built at Enso Gutzeit dockyard in Savonlinna in 1939.

Measures of the boat’s hull are: length 20m(24m) , width 5,5m , draught 1,5m and water displacement ca 35tn. Boat’s renovation for civilian use  was started in the late -70´s and the renewed boat was taken into service in 1981. At that time the boat was renamed to S/Y Katariina and during the summer of 2005 the boat has been inspected and licensed as a rental boat.

Cruises of Iisakki Mustaparta – Isaac Blackbeard

“IIsakki Mustaparta, Isaac Blackbeard, lived from 1751 to 1809, when the border was drawn to Tornio river bisecting families, lands and fishing. When he returned back from the seas, he saw the decay of his home, all the oppression and distress. Against the bourgeois will,  together with other peasantry he build a decked ship to transport tar to Stockholm, bringing a cargo of grain on his return back north. With these actions he wanted to bring democracy to the trading business but instead he irritated the officials.

Mustaparta and his men were declared outlawed, imprisoned and thrown into a stinking jail in Stockholm. Mustaparta, instead of giving up, went ahead to prove the legality of his actions. Eventually he was to become the delegate to the Parliament in Stockholm, defending the rights of the peasantry, and was nicknamed as Robin Hood of the North.”

During the cruise, Iisakki himself tells the stories and history of the region. The marine style dinner will be served at the boat.

Sataman Krouwi restaurant

Sataman Krouwi is located right on the other side of the road in inner harbor. In Krouwi you can get acquainted with the history and story of the former sawmill island Laitakari, which can be seen from the harbor. The cultural history of the Bothnian Bay has been an innovation for Sataman Krouwi event restaurant. In Sataman Krouwi, travellers can warm by the wood-burning fireplace while enjoying the local food and drink culture. 70 % of the ingredients used in the restaurant are locally produced. Music, events, stories and card games are at their best in Sataman Krouwi atmospheric environment.
